This work expands on my areas of interest, in direct response to personal grief. Going through the loss of my parents and the impact of bereavement and mourning within my life has led me towards more abstracted forms of representation. Considering mark making to create a form of visual language for my interpretation of grief and the psychology around its classifications, with a specific reference to the psychological theory of there being 5 'Stages of Grief', and '16 Types of Grief’. Generating a sense of order and index allows for a digestible visual for a taboo subject, where I hope to be able to open a wider area of discussion around loss and grieving. This work is also self-serving as a form of catharsis, and hopefully understanding for myself to come to terms with my grief and generate a lasting legacy for my Mum in honouring her through this work.
